The VFW has five scholarship programs for the 2007 - 2008 school year.  The programs this year include:

The Patriot's Pen is a competition open to students in grades 6 - 8.  43 prizes will be awarded starting with a $10,00 first prize to a $1000.00 prize for 16 - 43rd place.  Deadline for submissions is November 1st.

The Voice of Democracy is a spoken word essay open to students in grades 9 - 12.  Students must submit a 3 - 5 minute audio (either tape or CD).  Prizes and scholarships are awarded at the local, district, state and national level.  State winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC and receive a their portion of $146,000.00 in national awards, the top scholarship being $30,000.00. Deadline for submissions is November 1st.

The Outstanding Young Volunteer Award is open to students age 12 - 15.  A $5,000.00 prize is awarded to the student who has provided outstanding volunteer service to his or her community.  Deadline for submissions is February 1, 2008.

the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award is open to students in grades 9 - 12.  Four prizes will be awarded ranging from $10,000.00 for first prize to a $1,500.00 fourth prize.  Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2008.

The Washington State Essay contest is open to all students in grades 3 - 6.  The deadline for entry is November 1st.
